02:57 pm - Heliotrope Ridge
We have no hikes scheduled this weekend, as we're going to the Highland Games instead. However I never posted anything about last weekend's hike. jkling and I hiked up Heliotrope Ridge last Saturday. It's a popular trail, but most people seemed to be taking the Coleman Glacier climbers' route to Mt. Baker's summit. We turned left at the fork to get to the Coleman Glacier Viewpoint. Along the way we crossed several streams of varying sizes, and encountered snow on the ground at higher elevations. A very pleasant hike, and the weather was gorgeous!

Perhaps the best part was returning to the trailhead at a little after 8 pm and running into an old guy who looked to be about 70 fiddling with skis attached to his pack. I asked him if he'd been skiing up on the mountain, and he said "not yet!" Turns out he was going to hike up and ski by moonlight. We were quite impressed, and I was humbled.
