Wow, 76 guests! I thought having the wedding in Iowa would reduce the headcount.

|mareklamo||10:50 am - more visa news|
According to the US embassy's call center, they have our case on file. However, we have no appointment date yet, and it may take 45-90 days to set the date. When I have an appointment date, they will send me my packet of forms.

|mareklamo||05:45 pm - We're Approved!|
Our petition for fiancee visa has been approved! The USCIS (formerly the INS) mailed an approval notice on July 12. jkling should receive it any day now! I am so glad we filed with the Vermont center - the other three centers have terrible backlogs. They're only up to fiance visas received in February or April.

I just checked the processing dates of the Vermont Service Center - as of June 23, they are processing petitions for alien fiancees with receipt date of June 14. Our receipt date is June 16. Which means somebody will be looking at our application real soon now!

|jkling||02:27 pm - INS update|
Just got an officious piece of mail from the Department of Homeland Security, saying that my petiition for mareklamo's fiancee visa has been received. It says 30-45 days for processing, at which time the actual processing of her visa application can begin.

Petition sent back due to non-original application form. Received by jkling on Jun 12, and mailed back on Jun 14.

Jim will soon be able to file the petition for my visa. I sent him my docs via FedEx, as well as the necessary picture. Jim has also gotten his picture taken. All he needs now is a working printer. And $185.

|mareklamo||05:38 pm - INS photo requirements|
In order for me to travel to the USA to get married, jkling needs to file Form I-129F Petition for Alien Fiancé(e) with the INS. One of the supporting documents required is one color photo of me and one of him. The photo requirements are supremely nitpicky. For example, the image of the person in the photo "should be 30mm (1 3/16in) from the hair to just below the chin, and 26mm (1 in) from left cheek to right ear". The photo shop I went to yesterday did not take such photos, probably because they don't want to deal with such nitpickiness. Fortunately, I did find a shop at the mall that would do it (digital camera, so no negatives). Six copies for 80 pesos.
